Well, I have started the journey along the yellow brick road...today I went to Harrison High School for my student teacher orientation. Having graduated way back in 1997, I had almost forgotten what a high school looked like, was I ever that young?
Yet, as I watched the youth walk around my trepidation began to slow ease. I would soon interact with these young minds as a teacher. Although I am just starting out, I am fortunate enough to help shape their minds, to show them how great English is.
It is commonly said that English is the hardest language in the world to learn. Partly because we have so much slang. Although many are able to master the speech, far fewer ever master writing. There are so many different forms of writing, poetry, short stoies, fiction, non-fiction, literature, plays, SO many! This is why I am excited about my future and current career prospects. I have chosen a field that is ever changing. Each young woman or man will bring a new voice to our classroom, each will have their own unique style of expression. With an opportunity like this, how can I become complacent or bored? I can't!
I am looking forward to next week, I will meet my classes for the first time. I wonder if they will like me, I wonder if my teacher will like me. Most importantly, I hope I am able to contribute something to them...
